Jeremy Houghton (pronounced Howton) uses constant reinvention in his work to explore the subject of aesthetics, the sublime. His ethos is based on capturing an expression, his philosophy, simplification. What you see in a Houghton painting is the artist's emotional response to a scene, simplified and distilled into the essentials, a process of elimination. Houghton's vision is an exercise of composition: form, balance and technique, successfully played out before our eyes, resulting in pictures which provide instant visual indulgence and pure escapism.

Houghton's training has been alternative: An LLB Honours in Law, followed by a Foundation Course at the Slade and a Diploma in Fine Art in l'Université de Provence. His first association with the professional art world was through teaching in South Africa as head of art at the International School of Cape Town. He returned to the UK in 2005 and since then has been painting professionally, completing a number of ambitious projects and commissions. These include being London Fashion Week's official artist, painting two pictures of HM The Queen which are now in the Royal Collection, and being selected as one of British Telecom's 12 Official Artists for the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad. It is because of such associations and endorsement that International portfolios such as ‘The Royal Luxembourg Collection’ have already invested in Houghton's art. His last major exhibition in London was in the Saatchi Gallery in March 2011, and Houghton is currently working towards his first International solo show at the Everard Read gallery in Johannesburg, South Africa, in January 2012.

Houghton 的学习经历与众不同：他曾经获得法学荣誉学士，后在斯莱德美术学校学习基础课程，并获得了普罗旺斯大学美术专业毕业证书。他首次进入专业艺术世界是以南非开普敦国际学校艺术系主任的身份为学生授课。他于 2005 年重返英国，从此走上了专业画家的道路，并完成了数量众多的大型项目和委托。其中包括担任伦敦时装周官方艺术家、为英国女王绘制两幅肖像画（目前已列入“皇家珍藏”）、被英国电信公司选为 2012 年伦敦文化奥运会 12 名官方艺术家之一。正是由于其在业界深厚的人脉和业界人士的一致认可，使得“卢森堡皇家收藏”等国际投资人投资于 Houghton 的作品。Houghton 上一次在伦敦的大型个人作品展于 2011 年 3 月在 Saatchi 画廊举办。目前，他正全力筹备即将于 2012 年 1 月在南非约翰内斯堡 Everard Read 画廊举办的首次国际个人画展。
